We’re not supposed to judge a book by a cover, but c’mon, it really is our first impression and reaction to a book. If the cover interests you, maybe you read the blurb, read a few reviews, then decide to buy the book. If the cover holds no interest, maybe you never look at the blurb. Covers are actually pretty important. Especially in genre fiction.
We readers are looking for a certain type of book that we think we’ll enjoy. So if we’re looking for urban fantasy, but the cover shows space ships in combat, chances are we’ll pass on it. But even if the cover is obviously urban fantasy, maybe we’re looking for werewolves and the cover shows vampires.
